OSLO, Norway -- Defending cross-country World Cup champion Therese Johaug was handed a two-month provisional suspension Wednesday pending a full investigation into her positive doping test.Johaug, one of Norways most decorated female cross-country skiers, tested positive for the steroid clostebol. The Norwegian ski federation said the drug came from a lotion given to her by team doctor Fredrik Bendiksen to treat sunburn on her lips during high-altitude training in Italy in August. In a tear-filled news conference last week, Johaug insisted she was not guilty and said Bendiksen had assured her the lotion did not contain any banned substance.Anti-Doping Norway imposed a provisional suspension until Dec. 18, meaning Johaug will miss the start of the World Cup season. In a statement issued by the Norwegian ski federation, Johaug said she wouldnt appeal the decision. Now I will focus on whats most important: working for a full acquittal, she said.Niels Kiaer, an attorney for the agency, told The Associated Press that investigators will evaluate the case more closely in the coming weeks to determine the appropriate penalty. He said under international doping rules that could range between a two-month suspension to a four-year ban.The fact that she has now been suspended provisionally means she has some degree of fault, Kiaer said. Which degree of fault is what we will now investigate.Johaug, 28, has three Olympic medals and 11 world championship medals, including seven golds. She won gold in the 4x5 kilometer relay at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games, with a bronze and silver at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Shes won the overall World Cup title twice.Anti-doping Norway also launched an investigation into Bendiksen, who resigned as team doctor after taking the blame for Johaugs positive test.It now seems fairly clear that it was caused by a medicine delivered by the doctor, Kiaer said. We need to evaluate if he also is in breach of the rules.Johaugs case has rattled Norway and comes just months after its top male cross-country skier, Martin Johnsrud Sundby, got a two-month suspension for a doping infringement related to an asthma medication.Norwegian cross-country skiers have dominated both the mens and womens competitions in recent years. SAN DIEGO -- A member of a Canadian singing quartet changed a lyric in his countrys national anthem and held up a sign proclaiming All Lives Matter during a pregame performance at baseballs 87th All-Star Game on Tuesday. The Tenors, a group based in British Columbia, caused a stir at Petco Park with Remigio Pereiras actions while singing O Canada. In a statement of apology issued during the game, three of The Tenors pinned the changes solely on Pereira, who held up the sign and sang the altered lyrics, while the other three singers wordlessly harmonized. The three other members said Pereira wont perform with The Tenors until further notice, calling his actions disrespectful and shameful. The change happened during the middle portion of the anthem, which is often sung in French at sporting events.Pereira unexpectedly sang: Were all brothers and sisters. All lives matter to the great. The normal lyric is: With glowing hearts we see thee rise. The True North strong and free.United We Stand was written on the back of Pereiras sign.Major League Baseball also had no idea Pereira intended to make a political statement, spokesman Matt Bourne said.Although the audio wasnt crystal clear at the park, mmany fans reacted with surprise when they saw the sign on the ballpark video scoreboard.dddddddddddd The Canadian anthem wasnt shown live on U.S. television, but it aired in Canada, where the Tenors decision lit up social media with overwhelming criticism of the change. The Tenors are Pereira, Clifton Murray, Fraser Walters and Victor Micallef. The Juno Award-winning group has recorded multiple platinum albums in Canada and performed around the world, including gigs at the 2010 Winter Olympics opening ceremonies, the 2012 Queens Jubilee in England and the 2014 Stanley Cup finals. All Lives Matter has become a common online response in past months to the Black Lives Matter movement, particularly after the recent police shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. The motivations and ethnicities of the proponents of the All Lives Matter response vary, but it has received heavy criticism. The phrase is widely perceived to use reductive reasoning to trivialize the problems specifically facing blacks.Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. ' ' '
