The Dallas Stars have agreed to terms on a two-year, $10 million contract with defenceman Sergei Gonchar, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger. The deal is pending the completion of signed paperwork. The Stars acquired Gonchar from the Ottawa Senators on Friday in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick in this years draft. Dreger reported that Gonchars agent, JP Barry, was given permission to find a trade partner for Ottawa when the Senators decided not to re-sign the veteran defenceman. KHL interest accelerated the process for Gonchar, who will likely agree to a two-year deal with the Stars. The 39-year-old played the past three seasons for Ottawa, recording 15 goals and 76 assists. He has played 1,177 games in 18 NHL seasons. Gonchar, whose veteran presence on the Senators blue-line helped offset the loss of Erik Karlsson for much of the regular season, was reportedly seeking a multi-year deal. Reports indicated he was considering signing in Russias Kontinental Hockey League. Gonchar completed the final season of a three-year, $16.5-million contract. His cap hit was $5.5 million. If Gonchar signs with Dallas, it will be his fifth NHL team. The sixth-round pick is conditional on Gonchar signing a contract with the Stars. Given the choice between Henry and Stills, well side with Henry, who is also entering his first pro game but should earn right around double-digit touches as the Titans trend run-heavy in Mike Mularkeys exotic smashmouth scheme. The Cowboys are likely to trend run-heavy to protect the rookie quarterback, while Luck is on a Colts offense that dropped back on 66.7 percent of snaps last season, fourth most in the league. As for Ware, whom we prefer in this comparison, his rushing role could rewarding today against a San Diego front that was regularly gashed last season as weve mentioned and also proved susceptible again this preseason to big rushing plays. That said, Hill faces a Jets rush defense that allowed just 3.35 yards per tote to backs (second fewest) and a league-low two rushing scores to backfields in 2015.
